Disciplined Agile IT: How to Overcome the Challenges of Agility at Scale
Agile methods such as Scrum or XP promised to help improve your approach to software development. Lean methods such as Kanban promised to help you improve your ability to deliver effectively by streamlining the flow of work through your teams. Scaling methods such as SAFe promised to help you to do these things on large teams. Many of these promises fell short, not because of faults in the methods but instead due to the complexity of your organization. It’s time to rethink your approach to process improvement.
This hands-on workshop will be led by Scott Ambler, co-creator of the Disciplined Agile process decision framework. The workshop begins with a review of Disciplined Agile principles for improving IT processes. As a class we will identify a collection of issues that your organizations are currently struggling with, we will categorize and prioritize them, and then work through potential solutions for the most critical ones. Issues could potentially include, but are not limited to: how to address regulatory compliance; how to take an agile approach to enterprise architecture; how to approach reuse engineering; how to govern IT in an agile/lean manner; how to adopt agile/lean ways of working in your data management/administration space; how to take a disciplined approach to DevOps; and many more. Please come prepared to share one or more challenges that you’re currently facing – hopefully you’ll go away with strategies to overcome them.
