About me
My Agile journey began in the mid-nineties when I was a managing partner for a small video postproduction and multimedia firm. As we began branching out into new areas such as CD-ROM and website development, the nature of our small team of "generalizing specialists" lent itself well to an organic project management and overall development approach which had many of the hallmarks of contemporary Agile.
In positions at several dotcoms as well as at a large telecom, I developed a keen interest in combining this lightweight approach with proactive, overt risk management. This put me in good stead for the next leg of my journey, several years as a consultant project manager in IT.
Along came 2009, and with it my first experience of a formal Agile approach - a blend of Scrum and XP being practiced within the Insurance Line of Business of TD Bank Group. I was soon convinced that here lay a methodology after my own heart, and by 2010 had signed on full time for the adventure.
I set about formalizing my understanding of Agility, by obtaining my CSM, a LSS Yellow Belt, obtaining the PMI-ACP and becoming an ACP exam prep instructor; becoming a SAFe Program Consultant, as well as CDAP and CDAI. I delivered Agile training to over 400 practitioners in the Bank in addition to training hundreds more in my roles as PMI-ACP exam prep instructor as well as at McGill University.
I joined TD full time in 2010 and held a variety of positions within Technology Services, notably as the delivering Project Manager for the first three production releases of MyInsurance - a multi-year platform initiative that was successfully carried out using a mix of Scrum and XP. I then became the Technology Portfolio Manager for the Insurance segment, a role I held for two years.
I joined the Delivery Services Governance Office in 2015, where I advised management on issues related to the adoption and rollout of TD's Agile methodologies by acting as an Advisor, Coach, and Trainer across all segments of the Bank.
Early 2016 saw me move into the Enterprise PMO, where my main contribution was as a coach and executive advisor to the overall Agile Transformation Program.
The Disciplined Agile Consortium awarded me the CDAC designation in February 2017, and I thus joined the ranks of only a dozen individuals in the world to have achieved this level.
I left TD in February 2017 to start my own Agile consultancy. My subsequent assignment was with Mouvement Desjardins, where I was the acting Enterprise Agile Practice and CoE Lead until July 2018. I am now splitting my time across several clients, in areas as diverse as public utilities and municipal government, as well as teaching and conferences.
My approach is “Method Agnostic”: Through years of leading, advising, and teaching disparate groups of widely varying size, maturity, and business domain, I have achieved a level of objectivity that allows me to take a mix-and-match, pragmatic and context-driven approach to every situation.
